Our First Graduating Class – A Milestone in Taruwara’s Journey

On June 11th, Taruwara Elementary School celebrated a truly unforgettable milestone—our very first graduation ceremony.

This graduating class holds a special place in our hearts. They have been with us since the very beginning, when Taruwara first opened its doors during the uncertainty of the pandemic. Together, we experienced challenges, celebrated small victories, and built something meaningful from the ground up.

As we developed the vision, curriculum, and culture of our school, these students were never simply learners—they were our partners in the journey. Through their curiosity, resilience, kindness, and honesty, they taught us just as much as we taught them. Every success, every challenge, and every moment of growth helped shape the school that Taruwara is today.

At Taruwara, we have always believed that education is about far more than academic achievement. Our mission is to nurture children who can think critically, care deeply for others, and contribute positively to the world around them. Watching these students grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible young people has been one of our greatest joys.

Because they were our very first students, this journey was also a learning experience for our teachers. There were many moments that challenged us. To be honest, these children were not always easy to guide, and there were times when we struggled together. Yet our teachers never gave up on them. Instead, they continued to believe in each child, patiently supporting them with warmth, understanding, and unwavering dedication until the very end.

That is why graduation day was filled with mixed emotions. We celebrated how far they had come, while at the same time feeling the sadness of saying goodbye. By the end of the ceremony, there was hardly a dry eye among our staff. It was a powerful reminder that education is built on relationships, trust, and walking alongside children through every step of their journey.

Our original dream was to continue this journey with them by opening Taruwara Secondary School in time for their next chapter. Unfortunately, we were not able to make that dream a reality. Even so, we know they are ready to spread their wings.

Wherever life takes them and whichever secondary school they attend, we hope they will continue to grow into thoughtful, resilient, and compassionate young people who never stop learning, questioning, and making a positive difference in the world.

To our first graduating class, thank you.

Thank you for trusting us, growing with us, and helping shape Taruwara into the school it is today. You will always be the foundation of our story, and we hope Taruwara will always remain a part of yours.

Congratulations on your graduation.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you, and we cannot wait to see the wonderful future that lies ahead.

A Class Full of Firsts

Being our first class also meant they were the first to try almost everything at Taruwara, and some of those experiences have become the stories we tell again and again.

There was the egg incubator project, where they watched over their eggs day after day, hoping to see them hatch. There was also their very first camping trip, back in third grade, when the rainy season rolled in and they had to cheer themselves up without the bonfire they had been dreaming of.

Just before graduation, our sixth graders went camping once more—and this time, everything fell into place. With the weather finally on their side, they pitched their own tents right in the schoolyard and put their life skills to work, cooking dinner together with their teachers. As night fell, they gathered around a real bonfire at last — the one their third-grade selves never got to enjoy.

Green Class Community Service: Caring for Street Dogs

At Taruwara Primary, our Green Class focuses on sustainability and environmental awareness, aligned with our school’s holistic approach to nurturing responsible global citizens. Recently, the students took on a heartwarming community service project, extending their learning beyond the classroom to make a meaningful difference in their local surroundings. The project aimed to care for the street dogs in the neighborhood surrounding our school. Together, the students created water filters using recycled gallon bottles, an innovative way to ensure clean water for the animals. They also prepared dog food, learning about proper nutrition for animals. Armed with their supplies and a lot of enthusiasm, the children ventured out to meet the street dogs along the school streets, offering them food and fresh water. This hands-on activity not only demonstrated compassion but also connected the children with the environment and living beings around them. This initiative reflects the spirit of Green Class, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and social responsibility. By taking part in such meaningful activities, our students are encouraged to develop empathy and awareness of their surroundings. We hope this project inspires ongoing efforts and fosters a lasting commitment to caring for the community and the environment. With continued dedication and consistency, we believe these small but impactful actions can create ripples of positive change—both within our school and beyond.

Launching Creativity: Our Journey with Coding Projects for the Output Day

As a culmination of our coding class teachings, we're excited to extend the impact of our projects to a wider audience. And what better platform than Output Day? Our goal is to make strides in creativity and gather valuable feedback for future improvements leading up to the event. It's been a journey filled with learning and growth for all team members. Each had the opportunity to delve into the technical complexities of building not one, but two projects. We navigated through various coding languages and software, overcoming challenges with determination and perseverance. Our showcase features two thrilling projects: the "Rocket to The Moon Simulation" and the "Rollercoaster Simulation," each with its own unique characteristics. In the Rocket Simulation, guests are immersed in a story that makes them feel part of the journey. Meanwhile, the Rollercoaster Simulation promises to evoke the exhilaration and fear of riding a rollercoaster. Throughout the 13 weeks of preparation, we've experienced the joy of collaboration and creativity. With 80% of the projects developed by just four primary students, their ingenuity shines through every aspect. From brainstorming sessions to design iterations, witness how ideas transformed into immersive VR experiences. Guidance and final touches from our teachers, Pak Tude and Miss Giri, helped refine our creations. Central to our success is the students' involvement and commitment to teamwork. Samuel stepped up when needed, Kasy provided leadership, Charles offered valuable suggestions, and Haru's creativity fueled the projects. Ultimately, our aim is to ignite curiosity among our guests. For instance, the Rocket Simulation leaves them with unanswered questions, inviting them to ponder what's next: "Hello Human! Welcome to the Moon… to be continued." Kasy and Charles represent the Coding Group to present their project The queue in Coding & ICT Classroom, their base to showcase their two projects Everyone is very excited to try our two simulation projects with VR A sneak peek from our behind-the-scene of our two projects

Holiday Camp Adventures at Taruwara: Where Fun Meets Learning

Every school break at Taruwara is an opportunity for children to learn, play, and grow in ways that go beyond the classroom. Through our Holiday Camp program, we design exciting activities that turn each holiday into a meaningful adventure. Whether it’s a short one-week program or a longer three-week camp during the semester break, children are immersed in engaging experiences that combine fun with valuable learning outcomes. Different Themes, New Adventures Every Break One of the things that makes Taruwara’s Holiday Camp special is that every camp has a different theme. This means children always have something new to look forward to. From creative projects to outdoor explorations, each theme sparks curiosity and imagination. The variety ensures that children not only enjoy themselves but also develop new skills and perspectives every time they join. Engaging Activities for Young Explorers Our camps are carefully designed to balance fun and education. Children get to enjoy: Cooking sessions that build independence and practical life skills. Art and craft projects that nurture creativity and self-expression. Science experiments that spark curiosity and critical thinking. Fun educational games that promote teamwork, problem-solving, and joy in learning, etc. Every activity is hands-on and interactive, ensuring that children stay engaged while discovering their strengths and interests. Taking Holiday Camp to the Next Level with Projects This past semester, we introduced something new: Project Camp. This innovation brought our holiday program to a whole new level. Instead of only doing activities within the school, we extended the learning experience into the wider community and environment. A meaningful beach clean-up activity, where children learned the importance of caring for nature while making a real difference. A memorable campfire at school, where students bonded, shared stories, and created lasting memories. Through these projects, children experienced the joy of learning by doing — gaining not only knowledge but also a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and connection to their surroundings. Why Holiday Camp Matters for Your Child Holiday Camp is more than just a way to fill school breaks — it is an extension of Taruwara’s philosophy of learning through experience. By joining our program, children benefit in many ways: Confidence building: Trying new activities and overcoming small challenges. Social growth: Making new friends, collaborating, and learning to communicate. Creativity and curiosity: Exploring new interests in science, art, and nature. Life skills: Practical lessons such as cooking, teamwork, and environmental care. Looking Ahead: The Next Holiday Camp As the upcoming term break approaches, we are excited to open registration for another round of Taruwara Holiday Camp. Each program is thoughtfully planned to ensure children spend their holidays in the most enriching way possible.
